Position Overview

The Crane Rigger plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient lifting, movement, and positioning of heavy equipment within the mining plant environment. The role requires technical expertise in crane operations, rigging standards, and lifting procedures. The successful candidate will actively support maintenance and operational teams while upholding the highest safety and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform rigging activities in accordance with approved lifting plans and safety standards.

• Calibrate cranes correctly using load cells to ensure accurate and safe lifting operations.

• Operate crawler and RBT cranes for lifting heavy equipment within the plant environment.

• Operate overhead hoists for lifting heavy components around the mill area, including motors, pinions, and gearboxes.

• Inspect lifting equipment and accessories to ensure compliance with maintenance principles and industry standards.

• Follow established work management processes to execute lifting tasks efficiently and safely.

• Collaborate with maintenance and operational teams to coordinate lifting activities.

• Identify and resolve operational challenges using sound problem-solving skills.

Educational Requirements & Certifications

• Valid Crane Rigger certification/licenses.

• MINCOM Rigger Certificate of Competence is advantageous.

Knowledge & Experience

• Strong knowledge of crane operation and rigging standards.

• Good understanding of maintenance principles and industry standards.

• Knowledge of structured work management processes.

• Minimum of 4 years’ crane operation experience in a mining plant or similar heavy industrial environment.

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Proven ability to calibrate cranes for safe lifting operations.

• Proficiency in operating crawler cranes, RBT cranes, and overhead hoists.

• Strong problem-solving capabilities.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

• High attention to safety, detail, and operational compliance.
