Role Overview
The Data Collection Agent will support field research activities by engaging communities, administering surveys, and ensuring accurate and reliable data collection. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in diverse community settings while upholding ethical research standards.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Participate in community entry meetings alongside PACKS Africa staff, engaging local leaders and stakeholders such as chiefs, assembly members, and WASH officials.
- Represent the project professionally and respectfully in all community interactions.
- Identify and engage suitable respondents in line with defined sampling criteria.
Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
- Support or co-facilitate focus group discussions at the district level.
- Capture accurate and detailed notes, including key insights, themes, and participant perspectives.
- Document activities through photographs with the informed consent of participants.
Survey Administration
- Administer structured questionnaires to assigned respondents within the project timeline.
- Clearly explain survey questions and accurately record responses.
- Meet daily survey completion targets as agreed with supervisors.
- Review completed surveys to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission.
Data Quality and Reporting
- Prepare concise daily activity reports highlighting progress, observations, and challenges.
- Identify and promptly escalate data quality issues or community concerns.
- Submit all completed data and materials in line with project guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Resident in the assigned district.
- Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
- Prior experience in field data collection, surveys, or research activities.
- Basic proficiency in written English for reporting and documentation.
- Access to a smartphone and reliable internet connection.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse communities respectfully.
- Proficiency in relevant local languages (e.g., Ga, Twi, Ewe for Adenta).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively under supervision.
Desirable
- Experience in WASH, gender, or climate resilience programs.
- Familiarity with research ethics, safeguarding principles, and PEAH guidelines.
- Experience using mobile data collection tools such as KoBoToolbox or ODK.
- Ability to work effectively in rural or peri-urban environments.
Reporting and Collaboration
- Report directly to the assigned PACKS Africa supervising staff member.
- Follow daily guidance, participate in quality checks, and address operational issues promptly.
- Maintain proactive communication and adhere strictly to project schedules and protocols.
Level of Effort & Compensation
- Up to five (5) consultancy days over one month, depending on project needs.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and project guidelines.
