Position Summary

The French Language & Literature Teacher will deliver engaging, high-quality instruction in French Language and Literature, fostering students’ linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and critical thinking skills. The successful candidate will create an inclusive learning environment that encourages academic excellence while preparing students for success in the Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level French programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

The successful candidate will:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging French Language and Literature lessons that align with the Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level curriculum.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of students.
• Inspire students to develop confidence, fluency, and a lifelong appreciation of the French language and Francophone cultures.
• Integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
• Promote independent inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking through engaging classroom activities.
• Support high-achieving students while providing targeted interventions for learners requiring additional support.

Classroom and Behaviour Management

The successful candidate will:

• Create a safe, inclusive, respectful, and stimulating learning environment that encourages active participation.
• Foster positive classroom relationships that promote student wellbeing and academic success.
• Maintain high standards of behaviour in accordance with school policies.
• Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour.
• Supervise students during extracurricular activities and school events as required.

Assessment and Student Progress

The successful candidate will:

• Design, administer, and evaluate formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum objectives.
• Monitor and assess student progress using a range of assessment strategies.
• Analyse assessment data to inform teaching practices and improve student outcomes.
• Provide timely, constructive, and meaningful feedback that supports continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and academic progress in accordance with school policies.

Collaboration and Communication

The successful candidate will:

• Build positive and collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, school leaders, counsellors, and support staff.
• Maintain regular and effective communication with parents and guardians regarding student achievement, progress, and wellbeing.
• Contribute actively to departmental planning, curriculum development, and whole-school initiatives.
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote best practices and continuous improvement across the school.

Professional Development

The successful candidate will:

• Participate actively in staff meetings, professional learning programmes, and school initiatives.
• Pursue continuous professional development to remain current with best practices in language teaching and international education.
• Contribute positively to the wider life of the school through extracurricular programmes and community engagement.

Education and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree in French, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
• A Master’s degree in French, Education, or a related discipline will be an advantage.
• A valid teaching licence or recognized professional teaching certification.

Experience

The successful candidate should have:

• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level French.
• Demonstrated experience delivering excellent academic outcomes in an international or comparable educational environment.
• Proven experience integrating educational technology into language teaching.
• Experience supporting gifted learners and promoting high academic achievement.
