Position Summary
The General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for Black Buffalo International’s activities in Ghana, ensuring the successful implementation of the organisation’s mission, business objectives, and sustainable development initiatives. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee day-to-day operations, strengthen stakeholder relationships, ensure compliance with certification and regulatory standards, and foster a high-performance culture that supports both commercial success and community impact.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the implementation of Black Buffalo International’s mission, strategic priorities, and operational objectives in Ghana.
- Provide effective leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities for managers and employees across the organisation.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing workplace culture.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, sustainability, and organisational performance.
- Monitor organisational performance and recommend strategies that support long-term growth and impact.
Operational Management
The successful candidate will:
- Work closely with the Internal Control System (ICS) Manager to ensure the efficient sourcing and supply of certified organic, fair-trade, and other approved raw materials for BBI USA.
- Collaborate with the Head of Production to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable manufacturing operations while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Partner with the Finance Manager to ensure compliance with financial, statutory, certification, and operational requirements.
- Liaise with the Head of Human Resources to ensure effective workforce planning, employee engagement, talent development, and compliance with labour legislation.
- Support the Head of Transparency and Community Impact in implementing community development programmes and strengthening stakeholder engagement.
- Promote collaboration across departments to ensure operational excellence and achievement of organisational goals.
Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) Management
The successful candidate will:
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organization’s Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) strategy.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, certification, and statutory requirements.
- Establish effective systems for identifying, managing, and disposing of production waste in accordance with recognised best practices.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring employees receive appropriate health and safety training.
- Ensure staff and partner centres consistently comply with all safety procedures and use the required protective equipment.
- Monitor workplace risks and implement preventive measures that safeguard employees, visitors, and operations.
Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations
The successful candidate will:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulatory authorities, traditional leaders, certification bodies, customers, development partners, and community stakeholders.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community development initiatives that support BBI’s social impact objectives.
- Represent Black Buffalo International at official meetings, stakeholder engagements, and industry events.
- Welcome and manage visits from customers, certification bodies, auditors, donors, and other visitors while providing a comprehensive overview of the organization’s operations and impact.
- Negotiate effectively with external service providers to ensure successful delivery of projects and services.
Governance and Compliance
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, certification, and corporate governance requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective operational policies, systems, and internal controls.
- Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Prepare management reports and provide strategic recommendations to the CEO/Founder.
Education and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master’s degree in Business Management, Project Management, Agribusiness, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or another related business discipline.
- Relevant professional qualifications in leadership, operations management, project management, or supply chain management will be an advantage.
Experience
The successful candidate should have:
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant senior management experience in manufacturing, agribusiness, enterprise development, social enterprise, or a related sector.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex organisational operations.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, supply chain management, sustainability, certification standards, and organisational governance.
- Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and organisational development.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Outstanding leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing operations and product supply chain management.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with clients, communities, government agencies, and development partners.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and ethical leadership.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business management systems.
