Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and manage GIS databases, spatial datasets, and digital mapping systems to support mining and land management activities.
- Produce accurate maps, spatial analyses, and geospatial reports to support operational planning, land access, compensation, and resettlement programmes.
- Integrate spatial, environmental, and socio-economic datasets to support informed decision-making and project implementation.
- Support land acquisition, Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs), Livelihood Restoration Programmes (LRPs), and other community development initiatives through geospatial analysis.
- Process and analyze GPS/GNSS survey data, drone imagery, satellite imagery, and remote sensing datasets.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on geospatial data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
- Prepare high-quality cartographic products, dashboards, and visualizations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental, social performance, engineering, and land management professionals.
- Engage professionally with traditional authorities, regulatory agencies, consultants, and local communities on GIS-related matters.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to support project planning, regulatory compliance, and management reporting.
- Stay current with emerging GIS technologies, geospatial best practices, and industry trends to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline.
The following will be an added advantage:
- ESRI Certification or a specialization in Remote Sensing.
- A postgraduate qualification in GIS, Land Administration, Environmental Management, or a related field.
Experience
Applicants should have:
- A minimum of 5–7 years’ professional experience in GIS, including demonstrated support for mining or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience supporting land access, compensation, resettlement, and community development programmes.
- Experience integrating spatial and socio-economic datasets for planning and decision-making.
- Experience supporting Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs), Livelihood Restoration Programmes (LRPs), or similar initiatives.
- Experience working effectively with traditional authorities, government regulators, and external stakeholders.
Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Global Mapper, and GPS/GNSS data processing.
- Strong expertise in spatial analysis, digital cartography, and geospatial data management.
- Experience processing and interpreting drone imagery, satellite imagery, and remote sensing data.
- Strong capabilities in data validation, quality assurance, and quality control (QA/QC).
- Advanced skills in information management and geospatial database administration.
- Ability to communicate complex GIS concepts and analytical outputs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent report writing, presentation, and visual communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and relationship management abilities.
