Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and inspect construction, renovation, and maintenance projects to ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, contractual requirements, and quality standards.
- Serve as the University’s on-site representative during construction and maintenance projects, reporting to the Supervising Engineer or the Director of Physical Development and Estates Management.
- Record and monitor the daily progress of site activities, including labour deployment, equipment usage, material deliveries, and weather conditions.
- Identify, document, and promptly report defective workmanship, substandard materials, safety concerns, or deviations from approved designs and specifications.
- Verify quantities of materials delivered to project sites and certify completed work for payment in accordance with approved contracts and project milestones.
- Maintain accurate site diaries, inspection reports, meeting minutes, photographic records, and other project documentation.
- Coordinate the testing, inspection, commissioning, and handover of completed projects, including preparing snagging lists and monitoring corrective actions.
- Review shop drawings, material submissions, and method statements submitted by contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Liaise effectively with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and relevant University departments to facilitate the timely execution of projects.
- Monitor compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements throughout project implementation.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervising Engineer, Director of Physical Development and Estates Management, Registrar, Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
- Hold a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s Degree in Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Possess a Certificate in Building and Construction Technology, Electrical Installation, or an equivalent craft qualification from the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) or a recognized polytechnic or technical institution.
- Have a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience supervising building construction, electrical installations, maintenance works, or infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bills of quantities.
- Possess sound knowledge of construction supervision, quality assurance, measurement practices, and applicable industry standards.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and have working knowledge of AutoCAD or other construction/site management software.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Be capable of working independently while maintaining strong collaborative relationships with project teams and stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications
- Familiarity with recognized construction supervision and measurement standards, including those of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Ghana Standards Authority.
- Membership of a recognized professional body such as the Ghana Institute of Building (GhIB) or the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) will be an added advantage.
