We are seeking an accomplished academic leader to join our team as Head of Basic Medical Sciences. This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic department, drive academic excellence, and shape the education of future medical professionals.

Position Summary

The Head of Basic Medical Sciences will provide strategic academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Basic Medical Sciences. The successful candidate will oversee teaching and learning activities, support faculty and student development, promote research excellence, and contribute to the achievement of the University’s academic and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Basic Medical Sciences.
• Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic programmes within the department.
• Deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences to medical students.
• Supervise, mentor, and support students in their academic and research activities.
• Foster a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and research.
• Support faculty development and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Fulfil all responsibilities and obligations associated with the role of an Academic Senior Member.
• Contribute to the strategic growth and development of the Faculty and the University.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Dean or Vice-Chancellor.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must possess:

• A PhD or terminal degree from a recognized institution in one of the following disciplines:
  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Medical Biochemistry

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must:

• Hold a minimum academic rank of Senior Lecturer at a recognized tertiary institution.
• Demonstrate a strong record of teaching, research, and academic leadership.
• Possess excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
• Have the ability to effectively manage academic programmes, faculty development initiatives, and departmental operations.
• Have previous experience in a similar leadership position, which will be considered an added advantage.
