Position Summary

The Head of Clinical Sciences will provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for the Department of Clinical Sciences. The successful candidate will oversee teaching and learning activities, support faculty and student development, strengthen clinical partnerships, and contribute to the University’s vision for excellence in medical education and healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Clinical Sciences.
• Deliver high-quality teaching, mentorship, and supervision to medical students.
• Provide clinical services at the Central University Hospital upon commencement of operations.
• Collaborate effectively with external hospital partners and clinical faculty members to enhance clinical training and service delivery.
• Promote excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice within the department.
• Fulfil all responsibilities expected of an Academic Senior Member of the University.
• Support faculty development and contribute to curriculum enhancement initiatives.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Dean or Vice-Chancellor.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must possess:

• A PhD, Fellowship (terminal degree), or Membership qualification from a recognized professional body in any of the following clinical specialties:
  • Internal Medicine
  • Accident and Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must:

• Hold a minimum rank of Senior Lecturer at a recognized tertiary institution; or
• Have a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience as a clinician in public or private healthcare practice.
• Demonstrate strong academic, leadership, and administrative capabilities.
• Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Have previous experience in a similar leadership role, which will be considered an added advantage.
