The Head of Unit – Underwriting will lead the underwriting function and drive profitability, portfolio quality, and sustainable growth. The successful candidate will strengthen underwriting standards, enhance risk assessment frameworks, and drive expansion within the non-motor insurance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the underwriting unit to achieve revenue and profitability targets.

Develop and implement underwriting strategies aligned with corporate objectives.

Evaluate, approve, and manage complex risks in line with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.

Drive business development initiatives to grow and diversify the non-motor insurance portfolio.

Monitor portfolio performance and implement corrective actions to maintain profitability.
-
Collaborate closely with sales and business development teams to expand market share.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and governance standards.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development to underwriting staff.

Maintain strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers, and key stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Master’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.

Professional insurance qualification such as ACII, DipCII, or equivalent will be an advantage.

Minimum of 10–15 years’ relevant underwriting experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.

Strong technical knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and portfolio management.

Proven experience in business development, sales, and portfolio growth, preferably within non-motor insurance.

Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
