Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Kitchen Equipment Technician to join our Engineering team on a full-time basis. In this role, you will ensure the reliable operation, safety, and efficiency of all kitchen and mechanical equipment across the hotel. You will respond promptly to maintenance requests, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and support smooth daily hotel operations with minimal supervision.


Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to guest and internal maintenance repair requests and resolve issues professionally with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with guests and team members to address maintenance concerns and ensure service continuity.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on kitchen tools, equipment, and mechanical systems, including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.
  • Inspect tools, machinery, and equipment to identify faults, wear, or safety risks.
  • Carry and operate maintenance tools, radios, and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves and emergency controls for hotel systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance inventory and request required spare parts and supplies in a timely manner.
  • Communicate daily maintenance activities, issues, and resolutions across shifts using approved reporting standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings related to HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems.
  • Repair and maintain kitchen equipment, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, plumbing fixtures, and electrical systems.
  • Use Lockout/Tagout procedures before performing any maintenance work to ensure safety compliance.
  • Support energy conservation initiatives and maintain awareness of hotel energy systems.
  • Train and mentor junior engineering staff when required.
  • Perform Engineer-on-Duty responsibilities, including facility inspections and system monitoring.

Technical Competencies

You will demonstrate proficiency across multiple technical areas, including:

  • Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Electrical systems and controls
  • Mechanical systems and equipment
  • Plumbing systems and drainage
  • Pneumatic and electronic controls
  • Kitchen and food service equipment
  • General building maintenance and carpentry
  • Energy management systems

You will apply strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills in at least three core technical categories, with working knowledge across additional areas.


Safety, Compliance & Standards

  • Follow all company safety, security, and engineering procedures at all times.
  • Report hazards, accidents, or maintenance risks immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with local and national engineering codes.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of flammable and hazardous materials.
  • Complete all required safety training and certifications.
  • Maintain confidentiality of hotel systems and proprietary information.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Vocational or Technical certification in Engineering, Electrical, Refrigeration, or a related field

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hotel engineering or maintenance operations
  • Strong background in general maintenance, electrical systems, refrigeration, or mechanical repair
  • Experience in parts inventory control and maintenance requisition processes

Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification
  • Compliance with all applicable state and federal licensing requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs independently and heavier loads with assistance
  • Move safely across stairs, ramps, and ladders
  • Perform tasks requiring bending, reaching, kneeling, twisting, and stooping
  • Work safely with hand and power tools in operational environments
  • Operate computers and maintenance management systems
