Position Summary
The Lecturer in History will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching, advancing research, mentoring students, and supporting the academic and administrative functions of the College. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of future educators by promoting historical scholarship, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of historical events and their relevance to contemporary society.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and effective teaching in History and related courses.
- Develop course outlines, lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessment tools.
- Prepare, administer, and mark assignments, examinations, and other forms of student assessment.
- Supervise student projects, research activities, and teaching practice placements.
- Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and support to students.
- Conduct research and publish scholarly work in reputable academic journals and publications.
- Participate in curriculum development, review, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental and institutional administrative activities.
- Support community engagement and extension service programmes of the College.
- Participate in academic committees, seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional development activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal or an authorized representative.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in History from a recognized institution.
- A Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in History.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in History.
- A Teacher Education Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), which is compulsory.
- A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution or another recognized educational institution.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, research, and student development.
- Strong analytical, communication, and academic writing skills.
Note: Applicants currently pursuing a PhD programme may also be considered.
