Logistics Manager

Location: Tema, Ghana
Employment Type: Full-Time

On behalf of our client, a reputable manufacturing company, we are seeking an experienced and results-driven Logistics Manager to lead and oversee all logistics and distribution operations.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and optimizing the movement of finished goods to customers and distributors while ensuring operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, quality standards, and regulatory compliance. Position Summary

The Logistics Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for the company’s logistics and distribution function. The role involves managing transportation, distribution planning, inventory movement, third-party logistics providers, and delivery operations to ensure products reach customers safely, efficiently, and on time.

The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize logistics costs, strengthen vendor relationships, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics & Distribution Management

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies that support business objectives and customer service goals.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the distribution of finished goods to customers, distributors, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation and delivery operations.
  • Monitor logistics performance and implement improvements to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Optimize distribution networks and delivery schedules to maximize efficiency.

Transportation Management

  • Manage transportation operations and ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Coordinate inland transportation activities and logistics movements.
  • Monitor transporter performance and ensure adherence to service level agreements.
  • Identify and implement transportation cost-saving initiatives without compromising service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company standards.

Third-Party Logistics & Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships with third-party transporters, logistics service providers, and contractors.
  • Negotiate contracts, service agreements, and pricing structures with vendors.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Maintain strong partnerships that support efficient logistics operations.

Inventory & Documentation Control

  • Oversee logistics documentation and ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate inventory movement between warehouses, production facilities, and distribution channels.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to maintain inventory accuracy and availability.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and documentation of logistics transactions and activities.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze logistics performance data and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare performance reports for management.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects within the logistics and supply chain function.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop logistics personnel to achieve operational excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Set performance goals and monitor team productivity and effectiveness.
  • Support talent development and succession planning initiatives within the department.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Promote workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support internal audits and compliance reviews as required.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Prepare and present logistics reports, performance analyses, and operational updates.
  • Collaborate closely with production, procurement, sales, warehouse, and finance teams.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless logistics operations.
  • Provide recommendations that support strategic decision-making and operational planning.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional logistics, supply chain, and operational responsibilities assigned by management.
  • Contribute actively to organizational growth, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction initiatives.

Qualifications

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field will be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience managing logistics operations within an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in transportation management and distribution planning.
  • Proven experience managing third-party transporters and logistics service providers.
  • Experience leading logistics improvement initiatives and managing large-scale distribution operations will be an advantage.

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of logistics, transportation, and supply chain management principles.
  • Expertise in documentation management, inventory control, and inland transportation coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of logistics performance measurement and operational reporting.
