Position Summary
Graphic Communications Group LTD is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Technician to support the maintenance and reliability of its production equipment and mechanical systems. The successful candidate will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant machinery to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted newspaper production.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Install new mechanical systems and safely decommission obsolete equipment as required.
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance to ensure the reliable operation of production equipment.
- Service and repair image setters used in newspaper production to maintain the highest quality output.
- Maintain and optimise Computer-to-Plate (CTP) machinery for efficient production.
- Inspect, service, and repair compressors, motors, pumps, conveyor systems, and other plant equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective corrective actions to minimise equipment downtime.
- Contribute to the preparation and implementation of annual maintenance plans.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and comply with workplace health, safety, and operational standards.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess either:
- A good first degree in Mechanical Engineering (Plant Option) from a recognised tertiary institution with a minimum of two (2) years’ relevant work experience; or
- A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering (Plant Option) with a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant work experience.
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- The ability to read and interpret mechanical and schematic diagrams.
- Sound knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their operation.
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical fault diagnosis skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A keen eye for detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong computer literacy skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to work varied schedules when required.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting strict deadlines.
- A collaborative approach, high level of integrity, commitment, and professionalism.
