Role Overview

The Pump Mechanic maintains, repairs, and optimizes pumping systems to support safe and efficient mining operations. This role ensures the reliability of pumps and associated mechanical systems, particularly in demanding slurry and abrasive environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair pumps and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and availability.
  • Diagnose faults and troubleshoot issues in rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Install, align, and commission pumps and related components.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and lifespan.
  • Work with slurry and abrasive systems, ensuring proper handling and maintenance techniques.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and report on equipment status.
  • Adhere strictly to safety standards, policies, and procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to plan and execute maintenance activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Pump Mechanics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–7 years of experience in fitting or pump mechanics, preferably in mining or industrial environments.
  • Experience working with slurry or abrasive environments is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
  • MINCOM Mechanical Technician Certificate of Competency.
