Position Summary
The Relationship Officer will be responsible for acquiring new clients, managing loan portfolios, conducting credit assessments, supporting loan recovery activities, and delivering exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will serve as a key link between the company and its clients, helping to grow the business while maintaining a healthy and sustainable loan portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Acquisition
- Promote and market the company’s loan and financial products to prospective customers.
- Identify, recruit, and onboard qualified clients within assigned territories.
- Conduct field visits, prospecting activities, and community engagement initiatives to generate new business opportunities.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase customer acquisition and portfolio growth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with individuals, groups, entrepreneurs, and business owners.
Client Education & Onboarding
- Educate prospective clients on available loan products, eligibility requirements, repayment terms, and company policies.
- Guide customers through the loan application and onboarding process.
- Assist clients in completing application forms and required documentation.
- Conduct customer orientation and financial literacy sessions.
- Verify customer information and ensure all supporting documents are complete and accurate.
Credit Assessment & Loan Appraisal
- Conduct client appraisals and eligibility assessments.
- Perform field verification and due diligence on prospective borrowers.
- Assess business operations, cash flow, repayment capacity, and creditworthiness.
- Conduct reference checks and background verification exercises.
- Prepare detailed loan appraisal reports and recommendations for management review and approval.
Portfolio Management
- Manage and monitor assigned loan portfolios to ensure portfolio quality and growth.
- Maintain regular engagement with clients throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify potential risks or repayment concerns.
- Maintain accurate customer records and loan documentation.
- Implement strategies to strengthen portfolio performance and customer retention.
Loan Recovery & Collections
- Ensure timely repayment of loans and adherence to repayment schedules.
- Follow up on overdue accounts and implement effective recovery strategies.
- Conduct client visits and collection activities where necessary.
- Minimize portfolio-at-risk (PAR) levels and loan default rates.
- Escalate delinquent accounts in accordance with company procedures and policies.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build long-term relationships that encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.
- Address customer concerns and resolve complaints promptly and professionally.
- Deliver excellent customer service and maintain high levels of client satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional financial products and services.
- Act as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for assigned clients.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports.
- Maintain accurate customer, portfolio, and loan records.
- Submit loan applications, appraisal reports, collection reports, and other required documentation within established timelines.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support management with accurate reporting and portfolio performance updates.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- HND, Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Banking and Finance
- Business Administration
- Marketing
- Economics
- Accounting
- Entrepreneurship
- Or a related field
Experience
- Previous experience in microfinance, banking, sales, customer service, credit administration, business development, or a related field will be an advantage.
- Fresh graduates with strong communication, sales, and relationship-building skills are encouraged to apply.
