We are seeking a highly experienced and safety-focused Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) to join our team in Prestea. In this critical role, you will take full accountability for the integrity, compliance, and performance of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), ensuring alignment with global best practices and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Serve as the designated Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer, with full accountability for the safety and integrity of the TSF.
- Ensure all TSF design, operation, and modifications comply with regulatory requirements, the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), and approved design criteria.
- Review and approve tailings deposition plans, embankment raises, and water management strategies.
- Oversee TSF monitoring programs, including instrumentation, inspections, and performance evaluations.
- Identify, assess, and manage tailings-related risks, ensuring all risks are properly documented and mitigated.
- Coordinate independent technical reviews, audits, and engagements with the Engineer of Record (EoR).
- Maintain accurate records and reporting on TSF performance, inspections, and compliance status.
- Lead the development and maintenance of the TSF Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP), including emergency drills.
- Provide technical input into life-of-mine planning and TSF closure strategies.
- Promote a strong tailings safety culture through training, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
Minimum Requirements
You should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration (or eligibility for registration).
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in tailings management, geotechnical engineering, or water management.
- Demonstrated experience in TSF design, operation, and governance frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of GISTM and relevant industry guidelines (e.g., ANCOLD, CDA, ICOLD).
- MINCOM certification (optional but advantageous).
