Role Purpose
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Engineer to join our team in Accra. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and programs.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for preventive measures.
- Deliver safety training, awareness programs, and toolbox talks to employees and contractors.
- Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging employee engagement and adherence to safe work practices.
- Collaborate with department heads to implement risk mitigation strategies and continuous safety improvements.
- Monitor emergency preparedness procedures and support the coordination of drills and response activities.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.
- Stay informed about emerging safety regulations, industry trends, and best practices to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Requirements
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in health, safety, environmental management, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience within the hospitality, construction, manufacturing, facilities management, or related sectors will be an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and risk management practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing safety concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
- High learning agility and the ability to adapt to new challenges and changing environments.
- Demonstrated innovation, initiative, and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting tools.
