Position Summary
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs that support operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will provide leadership in risk management, workplace safety, incident prevention, environmental stewardship, and employee safety awareness. This role requires a strategic and hands-on professional who can drive a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve site-specific Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Lead the implementation of workplace safety initiatives that promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct routine site inspections, workplace audits, hazard identification exercises, and comprehensive risk assessments.
- Ensure full compliance with occupational health, environmental, and construction safety regulations, standards, and company policies.
- Develop and deliver safety induction programs for employees, contractors, visitors, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor workplace activities and provide guidance to ensure safe work practices are consistently followed.
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, near misses, and environmental occurrences, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, risk assessments, and safety performance analyses for management review.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Site Engineers, Contractors, and operational teams to achieve safety objectives and maintain safe project execution.
- Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns to reinforce safety compliance and employee engagement.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to established HSE requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training activities, incidents, certifications, and compliance documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve workplace safety performance and implement practical solutions that reduce risk exposure.
- Stay informed of industry best practices, emerging regulations, and new safety technologies to enhance organizational safety standards.
- Perform any other duties assigned by Management in support of organizational safety and operational objectives.
Candidate Requirements
Education
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Professional Certifications
Applicants must hold:
- NEBOSH International Certification.
- Valid First Aid Certification.
- Fire Safety Certification.
Experience & Competencies
The ideal candidate should:
- Demonstrate practical experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental Management within construction, engineering, manufacturing, industrial, or related environments.
- Possess strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, environmental compliance requirements, and risk management principles.
- Have experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, incident investigations, and safety training programs.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to identify risks and implement effective solutions.
- Be highly organized with excellent attention to detail and documentation management skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to influence safety behaviors and promote a positive safety culture across all levels of the organization.
- Be capable of working effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- Exhibit professionalism, integrity, and a proactive approach to safety leadership.
