Role Purpose

The Senior Leading Underground Hand Fitter leads and supervises underground heavy-duty mechanical operations, ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable maintenance and repair of mining equipment. The role provides technical expertise, coordinates teams, and supports operational targets while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Operations and Maintenance

• Lead and perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of underground heavy-duty machinery and equipment.

• Ensure all mechanical operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with mining regulations.

• Supervise the installation, alignment, and testing of mechanical systems in underground operations.

Team Leadership and Coordination

• Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to junior fitters and technicians.

• Organize and coordinate work schedules to ensure timely completion of tasks and operational continuity.

• Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and high performance within the maintenance team.

Safety, Compliance, and Quality

• Ensure all maintenance and repair activities comply with safety protocols, company standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment condition, and team performance.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to optimize mechanical systems and maintenance processes.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, safety, and operational reliability.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of 5–7 years post-trade experience as a heavy-duty fitter, with at least 2 years in a leading hand role.

• Demonstrated experience supervising teams in underground mining operations.

• Strong technical knowledge of heavy-duty mining machinery and underground mechanical systems.
