Position Summary

MTN Ghana is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Senior Specialist, Infrastructure Planning to lead the design, planning, and optimization of enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.

The successful candidate will drive infrastructure strategy, cloud adoption planning, capacity forecasting, and architecture governance while ensuring alignment with business objectives, enterprise standards, and digital transformation goals.

This role requires deep technical expertise, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Strategy & Architecture Planning

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise infrastructure roadmap aligned with business and technology strategy.
  • Define target architecture for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
  • Translate business demand into scalable infrastructure capacity plans.
  • Support long-term digital transformation and cloud migration strategies.

Cloud & Migration Planning

  • Lead end-to-end planning of cloud services across public, private, and hybrid environments.
  • Plan and coordinate migration waves, including landing zones and workload transitions.
  • Coordinate smooth transition of migrated services into operations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies including cloud platforms, virtualization, containers, and automation tools.

Capacity Planning & Performance Optimization

  • Perform capacity modelling and forecasting across compute, storage, network, and licensing domains.
  • Review and validate infrastructure designs across projects.
  • Drive standardization and modernization of infrastructure platforms and services.
  • Define infrastructure design principles, blueprints, and technical standards.

Governance & Technical Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture and security standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Enterprise Architecture, Security, and Delivery teams.
  • Participate in governance forums including architecture review boards and investment committees.
  • Close audit observations within agreed timelines.

Stakeholder Engagement & Business Alignment

  • Act as the interface between business units, application teams, and infrastructure delivery teams.
  • Evaluate infrastructure requirements for new initiatives and projects.
  • Support business case development, cost estimation, and investment justification.
  • Prioritize infrastructure initiatives based on value, risk, and strategic alignment.
  • Engage senior stakeholders and present infrastructure strategies, risks, and investment proposals.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Drive process optimization, standardization, documentation discipline, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Improve infrastructure delivery efficiency and operational performance.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in infrastructure planning processes.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications are required and advantageous, including:
    • ITIL
    • COBIT5
    • PRINCE2 / PMP
    • AWS / Azure / GCP certifications
    • Security fundamentals certification
  • Master’s degree (MBA, IT, or Engineering) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in infrastructure planning, architecture, or engineering.
  • Experience in enterprise-scale, telecom, or cloud environments.
  • Proven experience in capacity planning, cloud adoption, and infrastructure transformation.
  • Experience in regulated or multi-stakeholder environments is an advantage.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Cloud platforms: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Virtualization: VMware, KVM, Hyper-V.
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation.
  • Automation tools: Ansible, Puppet, Chef.
  • CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps.
  • Monitoring and capacity management tools.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management, DR/BCP, reliability, and performance frameworks.
  • Licensing models (Oracle, Microsoft, VMware, Red Hat).
