Role Purpose
The Senior Surface Logger leads wellsite geological data acquisition, analysis, and reporting activities. The role ensures accurate real-time monitoring of drilling operations, provides technical leadership on-site, and serves as the primary liaison between the client and the logging team.

You will oversee equipment performance, guide junior team members, and deliver high-quality insights that support critical operational decisions in challenging drilling environments.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Operations & Monitoring
- Install, configure, and maintain GEOLOG software and hardware used to acquire drilling parameters.
- Monitor rig activity in real time, analysing data to identify trends, anomalies, and operational risks.
- Interpret geological and drilling data to support decision-making in complex environments, including HPHT wells.
Reporting & Data Analysis
- Generate and submit accurate, high-quality technical reports and geological logs to clients.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and timeliness in all reporting deliverables.
Sample Collection & Geological Evaluation
- Supervise formation sample collection and conduct detailed geological descriptions.
- Support chemical and geomechanical analysis through accurate sample handling and documentation.
Client Engagement & Technical Support
- Act as the primary on-site contact for clients regarding technical and operational matters.
- Provide expert technical support and communicate findings clearly to client representatives and rig supervisors.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage, and train team members, including Surface Loggers and Sample Catchers.
- Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and high-performance team environment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to rig safety regulations and industry standards.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and participate in risk assessments and emergency procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Geology or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in mud logging on drilling rigs, including exploration and complex environments.
- Strong understanding of drilling operations and real-time anomaly detection.
- Experience working in HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature) environments is highly desirable.
- Proven knowledge of safety regulations and operational best practices in the oil and gas sector.
