Sonographer (Full-Time)

Location: Kokomlemle, Accra, Ghana

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Sonographer to join our clinical team and contribute to the delivery of exceptional diagnostic imaging services.

Position Summary

The Sonographer will perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support accurate clinical diagnosis and patient management. The successful candidate will provide compassionate, client-centred care while ensuring compliance with clinical protocols, professional standards, and quality assurance requirements. Working collaboratively with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams, the Sonographer will play an important role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Service Delivery

The successful candidate will:

  • Perform obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal, and other diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with clinical protocols.
  • Produce accurate, timely, and comprehensive ultrasound reports to support clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions.
  • Prepare and position clients appropriately before each examination to ensure comfort and quality imaging.
  • Deliver compassionate, respectful, and confidential care while safeguarding client privacy and dignity.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinicians and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism throughout all client interactions.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

The successful candidate will:

  • Ensure compliance with MSIG clinical protocols, infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Conduct routine operational checks and basic maintenance of ultrasound equipment and promptly report faults or maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all ultrasound examinations and reports.
  • Participate actively in clinical audits, quality assurance programmes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support compliance with organisational policies, safeguarding standards, and regulatory requirements.

Equipment and Operational Support

The successful candidate will:

  • Ensure the proper handling, maintenance, and effective utilisation of ultrasound equipment and accessories.
  • Monitor the availability of consumables and imaging supplies and report shortages promptly.
  • Support the efficient scheduling and coordination of ultrasound appointments.
  • Contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of diagnostic imaging services.

Client Care and Team Collaboration

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide clear explanations to clients regarding ultrasound procedures and address questions with empathy and professionalism.
  • Promote a positive client experience through respectful, compassionate, and client-centred care.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to deliver integrated healthcare services.
  • Uphold the values, ethical standards, and safeguarding principles of Marie Stopes International Ghana.

Education and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
  • Current registration with the Allied Health Professions Council of Ghana and be in good professional standing.
  • Relevant professional certifications in diagnostic imaging or ultrasound practice will be an advantage.

Experience

The successful candidate should have:

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in a reputable healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrated expertise in obstetric and Gynaecological ultrasound examinations.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Strong reporting, documentation, and record management skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound principles and imaging techniques.
  • Excellent practical skills in obstetric, gynaecological, and abdominal ultrasound.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention and control standards.
