Role Overview

Ecobank seeks a highly skilled and proactive Technical Lead – Core Platform & Backup Systems to design, implement, and manage the bank’s critical core platform and backup infrastructure. The successful candidate will serve as the subject matter expert, providing technical guidance, ensuring system availability, and supporting business-critical operations across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Design and Architecture

• Design and implement core platform and backup systems architecture for optimal availability and performance.

• Advise internal teams on solution design best practices, becoming the go-to expert for technical guidance.

• Gather and define requirements, exploring both out-of-the-box and innovative approaches to meet business needs.

• Oversee complex solution requests from initiation through deployment, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

Strategic Impact

• Define and maintain standards for core platform and backup infrastructure.

• Contribute to medium and large-scale projects across the enterprise engineering team.

• Identify opportunities where technology can enhance business outcomes.

Decision Making

• Resolve complex technical challenges within the core systems and backup domain.

• Make critical day-to-day decisions to ensure operational continuity while consulting management for long-term impact decisions.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain detailed architectural documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures.

• Prepare capacity planning reports, performance dashboards, and maintain a knowledge base to ensure operational excellence and cybersecurity awareness.

Service and Support

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding core platform and backup infrastructure.

• Escalate issues appropriately while ensuring prompt resolution and minimal operational disruption.

Team Management

• Develop, mentor, and grow internal talent within the team.

• Handle complex technical issues independently, keeping management informed of major developments.

• Advise management on trends in core platform, storage, and backup systems and recommend training where needed.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with application, network, and security teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.

• Act as a technical advisor to senior management on core platform and backup strategies.

• Lead technical discussions during audits, compliance reviews, and strategic planning sessions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.

• Minimum 7 years of systems engineering experience with expertise in core platforms and backup systems.

• Proven track record in designing and deploying critical core platforms, including IBM Power Systems, Oracle Exadata, and HP Integrity Systems.

• Expertise in core platform systems, storage and backup systems, cloud computing, and integration technologies.

• Proficient in Linux, Windows servers, and workstation operating systems.

• Enterprise experience in backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning.

• Industry certifications such as AIX, ITIL, Linux, Oracle, IBM, or other Enterprise Linux certifications are a plus.

• Strong documentation skills, including Microsoft Visio and report writing.

• Knowledge of TCP/IP, storage/SAN technologies (iSCSI, FC, Zoning, Storage Tiering), clustering, and high availability/fault-tolerance technologies.

• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
