Company Profile

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is mandated to register citizens and residents and issue secure national identity cards (Ghana Card). The Authority plays a critical role in developing a robust national identity system to support governance, security, and efficient public service delivery.


Job Purpose

The Technical Support Officer (Technician) ensures the smooth operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all ICT systems and biometric equipment at registration Centres. The role supports data capture processes, system reliability, and the secure handling of applicant information while delivering a professional and welcoming service environment.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, operating systems, software applications, and system licenses.

  • Monitor and maintain computer systems, networks, and registration infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults, both on-site and remotely.

  • Repair and replace components of Mobile Registration Workstations (MRWs), printers, print servers, and related peripherals as required.

  • Set up and manage user accounts, profiles, and password-related issues.

  • Support the deployment, testing, and evaluation of new technologies and system upgrades.

  • Prepare and submit regular technical and incident reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual), including documentation of procedures.

  • Log and track technical issues and user complaints using electronic systems.

  • Escalate unresolved technical issues to the Technology and Biometrics Department through the Regional Registration Officer (RRO).

  • Capture applicants’ biographical data into the enrolment system as recorded on application forms.

  • Capture biometric data, including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, using Mobile Registration Workstations (MRWs).

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all data captured from Registration Officials.

  • Manage printer systems and print servers to monitor and control Ghana Card production.

  • Print and issue National Identity Cards to applicants in accordance with established procedures.

  • Support the printing, sorting, and distribution of backlog ID cards to designated district registration offices.

  • Assist in training and orientation of Assistant Technical Enrolment Officers (ATEOs).

  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Executive Secretary or the Regional Registration Officer.


Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar) are an added advantage.

  • Prior experience in IT support, systems administration, or biometric systems operations is highly desirable.
