Position Summary

The Utilities Technician will support the efficient operation and maintenance of the brewery’s utility systems by ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of critical equipment. The successful candidate will monitor utility operations, carry out preventive maintenance, support equipment troubleshooting, and work collaboratively to maintain uninterrupted production while upholding the highest standards of safety, food quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As a Utilities Technician, you will:

  • Promote a strong safety culture by complying with all health, safety, and environmental requirements while proactively identifying and addressing unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Adhere to all Food Safety and Quality Management System standards to ensure the production of safe, high-quality products.
  • Operate, inspect, clean, and maintain utility equipment to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations.
  • Execute Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) activities to maximize equipment availability and operational performance.
  • Monitor, record, and report key operating parameters, including temperature, pressure, voltage, and current, to optimize equipment performance.
  • Maintain adequate water storage levels to support uninterrupted brewery operations.
  • Manage and accurately account for materials, spare parts, and consumables used during utilities operations and maintenance activities.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and collaborate with maintenance teams to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by participating in technical training and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Work closely with the Utilities Engineer and cross-functional teams to achieve operational targets and service level agreements.
  • Complete operational reports, inspection checklists, equipment logs, condition monitoring records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient working environment in accordance with company standards.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Higher National Diploma (HND), MET III, EET III in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant certification in industrial utilities operations will be an added advantage.
  • Between 1 and 3 years’ experience in utilities operations within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Practical exposure to utility equipment such as boilers, air compressors, refrigeration systems, CO₂ plants, and water treatment systems is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of industrial utility systems and preventive maintenance practices.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • A solid understanding of industrial utility operations and equipment maintenance.
  • The ability to interpret and apply operational procedures, engineering instructions, and safety standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving technical issues.
  • Excellent monitoring, reporting, and record-keeping skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • High levels of accountability, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work rotating shifts to support operational requirements.
