VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: VICE-CHANCELLOR
ACCRA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY (ATU)
Location: Accra, Ghana
1. About Accra Technical University
Accra Technical University (ATU) is a public tertiary institution established to provide higher technical, vocational, and professional education. The University is committed to excellence in teaching, learning, research, innovation, and community engagement, with a strong focus on producing industry-ready graduates who contribute meaningfully to national development. ATU operates within the framework of Ghana’s tertiary education regulatory bodies and upholds high standards of academic governance and institutional accountability.
2. The Position
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Academic Officer of Accra Technical University and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, academic direction, and administrative oversight in accordance with the University’s Statutes and policies. The Vice-Chancellor shall be accountable to the University Council for the effective management of the University’s academic, financial, and human resources.
3. Key Responsibilities
The Vice-Chancellor shall, among other duties:
Provide visionary leadership to advance the University’s mission, strategic goals, and academic excellence.
Ensure the effective organization and conduct of University examinations and the maintenance of high academic standards.
Oversee Quality Assurance systems to ensure compliance with national and international best practices.
Liaise effectively with Universities’ regulatory bodies and other relevant stakeholders.
Promote research, innovation, industry collaboration, and community engagement.
Ensure sound financial management and efficient administration of the University.
Foster a collegial, inclusive, and productive academic and working environment.
4. Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
Possess a terminal degree from a recognized institution.
Have wide experience in academic management at the tertiary level, including the conduct of University examinations, Quality Assurance, and liaison with Universities’ regulatory bodies.
Have at least twelve (12) years post-qualification working experience in a tertiary or analogous institution.
Holding a senior academic position shall be an added advantage.
Demonstrate strong leadership, administrative competence, integrity, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
5. Age and Tenure
Applicants must be able to serve a full term of three (3) years before attaining the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
6. Terms of Appointment
The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and in accordance with the University’s Statutes.
7. Mode of Application
