Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Officer – Underground to lead health and safety initiatives within underground mining operations at our Bibiani site. You will ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, manage underground risk environments, and drive a proactive safety culture in high-risk operational settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of underground health and safety programs and procedures
• Ensure compliance with Ghanaian mining safety legislation and underground operational standards
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and enforce effective control measures
• Monitor underground safety performance and drive loss prevention strategies
• Lead incident investigations and ensure timely reporting and corrective actions
• Conduct regular underground inspections, audits, and safety reviews
• Deliver safety training and communicate HSE standards effectively to underground teams
• Support and strengthen Safety Management Systems within underground operations
• Collaborate with operational and technical teams to promote a strong safety culture

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field is an added advantage
• NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
• Valid Senior HSE Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana (mandatory)
• OHS Lead Auditor certification is desirable
• Valid Ghanaian Class B Driver’s License (minimum requirement)
• Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in a Health and Safety role within mining or industrial environments, preferably underground operations
• Strong experience in risk management, hazard identification, and loss prevention processes
• In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian health and safety legislation, including Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182) and related Legislative Instruments
• Solid understanding and practical application of Safety Management Systems
• Excellent communication and presentation skills across all workforce levels
• Membership of relevant professional health and safety bodies is an advantage
• Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• High level of integrity, resilience, and commitment to safety excellence in high-risk environments
