Role Overview

The Energy Advisor – Public Facilities will drive the implementation of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) initiatives within public sector institutions. The role focuses on providing high-level technical advisory, mobilizing financing, strengthening institutional capacity, and supporting policy implementation to advance sustainable energy solutions in Ghana.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advisory services to key stakeholders on the implementation of Public Facilities Sustainable Energy Action Plans (PF-SEAP) and national energy efficiency strategies.
  • Support the design and implementation of financing mechanisms for renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in public (state-owned) facilities.
  • Facilitate the mobilization of financial resources from private sector actors (e.g., investors, banks) and multilateral institutions for RE and EE initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for partners on preparing high-quality funding proposals for energy projects.
  • Advise relevant stakeholders on implementing energy efficiency regulations in public and commercial buildings, including accreditation processes for energy performance certification bodies.
  • Oversee training and advisory services for energy auditors, with a focus on supporting and promoting female auditors in conducting energy audits.
  • Design and implement awareness and information campaigns on renewable energy and energy efficiency targeting employees of public institutions.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate technical working group meetings and bilateral engagements with partner organizations.
  • Strengthen collaboration and dialogue with partners while supporting public relations activities.
  • Ensure effective knowledge management and facilitate knowledge transfer to implementing partners and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate project activities and deliver regular reports to partners and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field such as Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Business Administration.
  • Additional qualifications in renewable energy and energy efficiency are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise or formal qualification in climate finance is essential.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience with renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, along with strong knowledge of international policies in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate finance.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
  • Experience in carbon markets is an added advantage.
  • Strong proficiency in modern IT tools, including MS Outlook and MS Teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and strong organizational and management skills.
  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to institutional change.
  • Strong results orientation, accountability, and willingness to take responsibility.
