Role Overview

The Safety Superintendent – Compliance and Projects serves as the company’s subject matter expert on Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ). The role drives compliance, strengthens safety systems, and supports project execution by ensuring that all operations meet legal, regulatory, and company safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of safety improvement action plans in collaboration with the Operations Manager or SHEQ lead.
  • Enforce company SHE policies across all operations to ensure the safety and security of personnel, equipment, and assets.
  • Maintain and continuously improve SHE management systems in line with ISO 18001 standards and AECI Group guidelines.
  • Identify, interpret, and enforce compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and company SHE requirements.
  • Monitor SHE performance and drive action plans to achieve full compliance and industry best practices.
  • Conduct and oversee HAZOP studies and risk assessments for new and existing projects to ensure safe execution.
  • Lead safety training, inductions, and mentorship programs in collaboration with the Human Capital team to ensure workforce competency.
  • Prepare and present SHE reports to management to support informed decision-making.
  • Support operational continuity by performing additional duties as required.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences, Health and Safety Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ SHE experience within mining, explosives, or manufacturing industries at supervisory or middle-management level.
  • Professional certification in occupational safety (e.g., NEBOSH or IOSH).
  • Certification of competence in blasting and HSE Supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of Ghana Minerals and Mining Regulations (L.I. 2177 and L.I. 2182).
  • Demonstrated experience with ISO 18001 management systems.
  • Solid understanding of SHE policies, standards, auditing procedures, and legal compliance requirements.
  • Valid Ghanaian driver’s license (Class C).
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and report-writing skills.
