The College of Education plays a critical role in advancing the University’s mission through high-quality teaching, research, continuing education, and leadership development. The College comprises the following academic units:

  • School of Information and Communication Studies
  • School of Education and Leadership
  • School of Continuing and Distance Education

The Provost also provides oversight for the University’s city campuses in Kumasi and Takoradi.

Position Summary

The University of Ghana invites applications from distinguished and visionary academic leaders for the position of Provost, College of Education. The successful candidate will provide strategic academic and administrative leadership for the College and support the achievement of the University’s strategic goals under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor.

The role requires a dynamic leader with proven experience in higher education administration, academic leadership, policy implementation, institutional development, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Objectives of the College

The College of Education seeks to:

  • Promote excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and technology-driven educational practices.
  • Support research that informs educational policy, practice, and societal development.
  • Expand adult, continuing, and distance education opportunities to broaden access to tertiary education.
  • Advance the understanding and practice of information and communication through research and academic excellence.
  • Equip professionals in communication and information management with modern skills and competencies.
  • Contribute to Africa’s social, cultural, and economic development through quality tertiary education, research, and extension services.

Key Responsibilities

The Provost will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the College under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor.
  • Coordinate and oversee the activities of the College’s academic and administrative units.
  • Drive the growth, development, and academic advancement of the College.
  • Promote academic excellence, innovation, and research within the College.
  • Lead resource mobilization and fundraising initiatives to support the College’s strategic priorities.
  • Implement policy decisions and directives affecting the College as approved by the University Council and Academic Board.
  • Strengthen partnerships and collaborations with local and international stakeholders.
  • Promote effective governance, accountability, and operational efficiency within the College.

Qualifications and Attributes

The ideal candidate must:

  • Be a Professor or an industry professional eligible for appointment at that rank.
  • Demonstrate proven capacity to provide strategic academic and administrative leadership.
  • Have significant experience in managing complex academic or professional institutions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate diverse academic units and stakeholders effectively.
  • Show evidence of successful fundraising, partnership development, and resource mobilization.
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence, innovation, and institutional growth.
  • Be capable of implementing policy decisions and driving organizational change effectively.

Tenure

The successful candidate will serve a term of three (3) years on terms and conditions approved by the University Council and may be eligible for reappointment for an additional term of up to three years, subject to statutory requirements and retirement regulations.
