Position Summary
The Deputy Director of General Services will assist in providing strategic and operational leadership for the effective management of biomedical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering services. The role ensures the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient facilities and infrastructure systems that support high-quality patient care and hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of efficient and compliant facilities management services, including estates, assets, equipment, and support systems.
- Ensure biomedical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering services are effectively optimized across the Hospital.
- Engage and coordinate with contractors, consultants, and technical partners to ensure safe, compliant, and timely service delivery.
- Oversee facility improvement projects, infrastructure upgrades, and operational change initiatives across departments.
- Direct and supervise external contractors engaged in maintenance, construction, and engineering works.
- Prepare technical specifications for civil and biomedical engineering projects, including cost estimates for materials, equipment, labour, and services.
- Monitor and oversee site works and building projects executed by external contractors.
- Develop and implement standards for cost-effective energy management systems and supervise their operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous and controlled waste in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to strategic planning by assessing current and future infrastructure needs and recommending viable solutions.
- Support project evaluation, budgeting, and performance monitoring for capital and operational initiatives.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of General Services.
Educational Requirements
- BSc in Biomedical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field plus MSc in a relevant discipline
OR - MSc in Biomedical, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering plus BSc in a relevant field
Qualification & Experience
- Must be a registered member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers.
- Must be at the level of Deputy Chief Engineer (Biomedical/Civil/Electrical/Mechanical) or equivalent,
OR possess at least 12 years of relevant post-qualification experience, including 5 years in a senior management role. - Strong background in operational and strategic planning within a complex institution.
- Proven experience in project management, construction management, and budget development.
- Demonstrated ability in project evaluation, appraisal, and execution of infrastructure initiatives.
- Evidence of leadership development and continuous professional training in relevant fields.
