We are seeking a visionary, experienced, and transformational leader to serve as the College Principal and provide strategic direction for the continued growth and success of the institution.
Role Overview
The College Principal serves as the Chief Executive Officer, Administrative Head, and Chief Disciplinarian of the College. The Principal provides strategic leadership and ensures academic excellence, institutional integrity, and effective administration in alignment with the Governing Council’s directives, the Academic Board, the statutes of the College, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) regulations, and all applicable national laws.
The Principal reports to the Governing Council and is responsible for advancing the College’s mission, vision, and long-term strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The Principal will:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the overall development and administration of the College.
- Ensure academic excellence and maintain high standards in teaching, learning, and research.
- Oversee the financial, administrative, and operational management of the institution in accordance with approved regulations and policies.
- Serve as the Chief Disciplinarian and uphold discipline, integrity, and institutional values across the College community.
- Implement decisions of the Governing Council and Academic Board effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with the statutes of the College, GTEC regulations, and national education laws.
- Lead institutional planning, policy development, and quality assurance processes.
- Mobilize internal and external resources to support the College’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Foster strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, including government agencies, development partners, and academic institutions.
- Promote the visibility, reputation, and academic standing of the College nationally and internationally.
- Provide visionary leadership that drives innovation, transformation, and continuous improvement.
- Strengthen governance structures and institutional effectiveness.
Qualification and Experience
The ideal candidate must:
- Hold a Professorial rank in a recognized tertiary institution or equivalent organization.
- Be a distinguished scholar in Teacher Education (teaching and learning).
- Possess a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrate strong personal integrity, academic stature, and exemplary leadership qualities.
- Have extensive administrative and senior management experience in tertiary education.
- Show a strong understanding of the challenges facing Colleges of Education and higher education in Ghana.
- Be capable of completing at least one full 4-year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.
- Demonstrate the ability to:
- Manage and administer a tertiary institution effectively.
- Build and sustain strong internal and external relationships.
- Project and enhance the institutional image.
- Provide visionary leadership and drive institutional innovation.
Tenure of Office
- The appointment is for a term of four (4) years.
- The term may be renewed for an additional four (4) years only, subject to satisfactory performance and eligibility requirements.
- Renewal is contingent on the candidate being able to complete the full term before attaining the compulsory retirement age of 60.
