The Assistant Registrar (Counselling) will provide professional counselling services that promote the mental health, emotional well-being, academic success, and personal development of students and staff. The successful candidate will coordinate counselling programmes, support student welfare initiatives, maintain professional counselling standards, and contribute to the University’s commitment to creating a healthy and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counselling services to students and staff on personal, academic, social, career, and emotional well-being matters.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate counselling programmes, workshops, and mental health awareness initiatives across the University.
- Maintain confidential counselling records in accordance with professional ethics, data protection requirements, and University policies.
- Identify students and staff experiencing crises and coordinate timely referrals to appropriate mental health and social support services.
- Collaborate with academic departments, the Students’ Representative Council, University Health Services, and other stakeholders to promote student welfare.
- Support the development, implementation, and review of student welfare, counselling, and mental health policies.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports on counselling activities, programme outcomes, and service delivery to the Registrar or designated authority.
- Participate in orientation and induction programmes to educate new students about available counselling and support services.
- Liaise with the Ghana Psychology Council and other relevant professional bodies to ensure compliance with ethical and professional counselling standards.
- Support initiatives that enhance student well-being, resilience, and academic success.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of the Counselling Unit, the Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
- Have served as a Junior Assistant Registrar (Counselling) in an accredited university or comparable institution for at least two (2) years; or
- Hold an M.Phil. or a two-year research Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, or a related discipline; or
- Hold a good first degree in Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
In addition, applicants must:
- Have at least four (4) years of relevant postgraduate counselling experience in a university or a comparable institution at the senior management level.
- Be registered with the Ghana Psychology Council.
