Position Summary

The Parliamentary Service of Ghana is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Legislative Drafting Officer II to join its Legislative Drafting team. The successful candidate will support the preparation and review of legislation by providing legal analysis, drafting Bills and amendments, and offering legal advice to Members of Parliament and parliamentary committees. This role presents an excellent opportunity for an early-career legal professional to contribute to Ghana’s legislative process.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Analyse legislative policy proposals to ensure they are consistent with existing legal and constitutional frameworks.
  • Provide legal advice and drafting support to Members of Parliament, parliamentary committees, and departments.
  • Draft primary legislation (Bills) in accordance with established legislative drafting standards.
  • Draft amendments to legislation during parliamentary committee stages.
  • Proofread, edit, and mark up legislative and legal documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Conduct legal research to support legislative drafting and policy development.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Clerk to Parliament.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognised university.
  • A Barrister-at-Law (BL) qualification.
  • Successful completion of pupillage.
  • A maximum of three (3) years’ post-qualification experience.

The ideal candidate should also demonstrate:

  • Strong legislative drafting and legal research skills.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
