The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is Canada’s federal funding agency for health research. It works with researchers, institutions, partners, and communities to support scientific discoveries and innovations that improve health outcomes and strengthen Canada’s health care system. CIHR is composed of 13 Institutes and supports health research across Canada.

Founded

CIHR was created in 2000 under the authority of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Act. It operates as an independent agency and is accountable to Parliament through Canada’s Minister of Health.
