Accounting Assistant (Full-Time)
Location: Navrongo, Ghana

Key Responsibilities
- Process and record financial transactions, including payments, receipts, disbursements, and journal entries within the University’s accounting system.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Manage petty cash, maintain accurate cash book records, and reconcile petty cash accounts in accordance with the University’s financial regulations.
- Process payment vouchers, invoices, reimbursement claims, and other financial documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with procurement and financial procedures.
- Support the preparation of payroll schedules, staff allowances, and other financial computations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers for assigned accounts.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and account reconciliations and follow up on outstanding transactions.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monitor expenditures against approved budgets for assigned cost centres.
- Respond professionally and promptly to financial enquiries from staff, students, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Support internal and external audit exercises by preparing and providing relevant financial records and supporting documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in the handling of financial information and records.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor, Director of Finance, Registrar, Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
- Be serving as an Accounting Assistant in a university or a comparable institution; or
- Hold a good First Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrate knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and public sector financial management practices.
- Possess proficiency in at least one accounting software application such as IPSAS-compliant systems, Tally, QuickBooks, or an equivalent financial management system.
- Have strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical, numerical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
- Evidence of ongoing or completed professional studies with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), or the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) will be an added advantage.
