Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and professional opinions to the University Council, Management, and relevant Committees on legal matters affecting the University.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, and other legal documents on behalf of the University.
- Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, statutes, and University policies to support effective institutional governance.
- Represent the University or coordinate with external legal counsel in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other dispute resolution proceedings.
- Advise on legal matters relating to intellectual property, procurement, employment law, land and property transactions, data protection, and other areas of institutional operations.
- Maintain accurate records of legal proceedings, contracts, and related legal documentation.
- Support the development, review, and implementation of University policies and governance frameworks with legal implications.
- Liaise with the Ghana Bar Association, regulatory authorities, public institutions, and other stakeholders on legal matters affecting the University.
- Provide legal guidance and awareness training to management and staff on relevant legal and regulatory issues.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Vice-Chancellor or the University Council.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
- Hold a good Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
- Have been called to the Bar as a Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana following successful completion of the Professional Law Course at the Ghana School of Law.
- Hold a Master of Laws (LLM) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in a relevant legal discipline from a recognized institution.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years’ relevant post-call legal practice experience in a reputable public or private institution.
- Be a member in good standing of the Ghana Bar Association.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Possess strong legal research, drafting, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate sound professional judgment, integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
