Role Overview
The Communications and Media Officer will play a central role in shaping and delivering EJF’s communications strategy in Ghana. The role focuses on producing compelling, accurate, and accessible content that communicates complex environmental and human rights issues to diverse audiences, including local fishing communities, national stakeholders, and international partners. The successful candidate will work closely with programme teams to amplify EJF’s impact through strong media engagement and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver clear, engaging, and fact-checked communications for print, online, and media platforms.
Translate complex environmental and human rights issues into accessible messages for multiple audiences, including coastal and fishing communities.
Engage proactively with local and national media, maintaining strong relationships with journalists and media outlets in Ghana.
Support media outreach, press releases, briefings, and interviews in alignment with EJF’s advocacy goals.
Contribute to communications planning and project delivery with minimal supervision.
Ensure all communications uphold EJF’s values, accuracy standards, and ethical principles.
Collaborate closely with programme, research, and advocacy teams to strengthen campaign impact.
Work calmly and effectively under pressure while meeting deadlines and responding to emerging issues.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
A degree or equivalent professional experience in Communications, Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Experience & Skills:
Strong news sense with the ability to identify, develop, and communicate compelling stories.
Proven ability to produce inspiring, accurate, and well-researched written content for print and digital platforms.
Experience working within a media or press team, with a solid understanding of the media landscape in Ghana.
Existing media contacts are an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and deliver results with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Tactful, friendly, and calm under pressure.
Confident, resilient, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach to work.
Strong passion for environmental protection and human rights.
