Position Summary
The Compliance Manager will serve as the designated Anti-Money Laundering Reporting Officer (AMLRO) and Data Protection Supervisor, overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of compliance, AML/CFT, and data protection programs. The successful candidate will work closely with regulators, senior management, legal teams, technology teams, and business units to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices across all operating jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorist Financing (CFT)
The successful candidate will:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and enhance the company’s AML/CFT policies, procedures, and controls in line with applicable local and international regulatory requirements.
- Conduct periodic AML risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of AML activities, investigations, assessments, and regulatory submissions.
- Monitor customer transactions and business activities to identify suspicious patterns and potential financial crime risks.
- Lead investigations into suspicious transactions and ensure timely and accurate reporting to relevant authorities.
- Serve as the officially designated AMLRO and oversee day-to-day AML compliance operations.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulators, financial intelligence units, and supervisory authorities regarding AML matters.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure the organization remains compliant with evolving AML/CFT requirements across all markets.
Data Protection Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain data protection policies, procedures, and governance frameworks aligned with ISO 27001:2022, GDPR, and applicable privacy laws.
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new products, services, technologies, and business initiatives.
- Maintain records of processing activities, privacy documentation, risk assessments, and compliance evidence.
- Monitor changes in global and regional privacy regulations and recommend updates to organizational policies and practices.
- Lead investigations into data protection incidents and coordinate breach response activities.
- Ensure timely notification and reporting of data breaches to regulators and affected individuals where required.
- Advise business stakeholders on privacy-by-design principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Act as the primary contact point for data subjects and manage requests related to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and objection rights.
- Serve as the officially appointed Data Protection Supervisor and liaise with data protection authorities across operating jurisdictions.
Governance, Risk & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with licensing requirements and regulatory obligations, including reporting requirements to the Bank of Ghana and other relevant authorities.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on business operations and compliance frameworks.
- Support the design and implementation of internal controls, compliance monitoring programs, and risk management initiatives.
- Conduct periodic compliance testing and assessments and oversee remediation activities where gaps are identified.
- Prepare compliance reports, risk assessments, and management updates for senior leadership and governance committees.
- Deliver quarterly compliance awareness and training programs covering AML, data protection, regulatory compliance, and ethical conduct.
- Collaborate with Legal, Technology, Product Development, Operations, Risk, and other business units to integrate compliance requirements into business processes.
- Promote a strong compliance culture through continuous education, stakeholder engagement, and governance best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Risk Management, Compliance, Finance, Information Security, or a related discipline.
- A degree in Law will be highly advantageous.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years of progressive experience in AML, regulatory compliance, financial crime prevention, data protection, or governance roles.
- Experience within the FinTech, financial services, banking, payments, or regulated technology sectors is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience designing and implementing AML, compliance, and data protection frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory reporting obligations.
- Practical experience conducting DPIAs, managing data breach incidents, and overseeing privacy compliance programs.
- Strong understanding of international compliance and regulatory environments across multiple jurisdictions.
Professional Certifications
AML Certifications
Candidates should possess at least one recognized AML qualification, such as:
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS)
- ICA International Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering
- Equivalent professional AML certification
Data Protection Certifications
Candidates should possess at least one recognized privacy or data protection certification, such as:
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E, CIPP/A)
- Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM)
- Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT)
- Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS)
- Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO)
- Equivalent data privacy certification
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Compliance & Regulatory Expertise
- Deep understanding of AML/CFT regulations, financial crime prevention frameworks, and sanctions compliance.
- Strong knowledge of GDPR, ISO 27001:2022, and international privacy and data protection regulations.
- Familiarity with fintech regulatory environments, licensing frameworks, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Risk Management & Governance
- Strong risk assessment, control evaluation, and compliance monitoring capabilities.
- Ability to identify emerging risks and implement practical mitigation strategies.
- Experience managing governance frameworks and regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions.

- Excellent investigative, analytical, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to evaluate complex compliance and privacy issues.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage sensitive matters effectively.

Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in French will be highly advantageous.
- Experience working with large-scale data processing environments and modern technology platforms.
- Exposure to multi-country regulatory environments across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
- Experience supporting rapidly growing fintech or digital financial services organizations.
