Job Summary

The Engineer will support the planning, development, maintenance, and improvement of the University’s electrical infrastructure and engineering systems. The successful candidate will manage electrical projects, oversee installations and maintenance activities, ensure compliance with engineering standards, and provide technical expertise to enhance the University’s operational efficiency and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, install, commission, maintain, and repair electrical systems, infrastructure, and equipment across the University campus.
  • Prepare technical specifications, engineering drawings, cost estimates, and bills of quantities for electrical works and related capital projects.
  • Supervise and inspect electrical works completed by contractors, technicians, and artisans to ensure compliance with approved designs, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular condition assessments and preventive maintenance of electrical assets, including power distribution systems, generators, lighting systems, and laboratory installations.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for electrical maintenance activities and infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical advice to University Management on energy efficiency initiatives, sustainable power solutions, and technology upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the Clerk of Works, engineers, contractors, and project teams on construction, renovation, and infrastructure development projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical installations, maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and project documentation.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819), relevant regulations, and professional standards.
  • Support the implementation of safe engineering practices across University facilities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Physical Development and Estates Management, the Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a good first degree (BSc) and an M.Phil. or two-year research Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering from a recognized university accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
  • Be registered or eligible for registration with a licensed professional body under the Engineering Council of Ghana (Act 819) as an Engineering Technologist or Professional Engineer.
  • Possess at least two (2) years of relevant postgraduate engineering experience.
  • Hold membership of a recognized professional engineering institution.
  • Demonstrate practical experience in electrical systems design, installation, maintenance, and project supervision.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, systems, and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software, including AutoCAD and other relevant technical tools.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent analytical and technical assessment abilities.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in relevant engineering applications.
