Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and committed Gender Officer to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment across FAO programmes. The successful candidate will drive socio-economic analysis, support policy development, and strengthen gender-responsive approaches within agriculture, food security, and rural development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support socio-economic and gender analysis to inform programmes and policies
- Contribute to the design, formulation, and implementation of gender-responsive policies and strategies
- Provide technical support to government institutions and partners on gender integration in agriculture and rural development
- Strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems with gender-sensitive indicators
- Design and deliver capacity-building initiatives, training, and awareness programmes on gender equality
- Support resource mobilization efforts for gender-focused programmes
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective programme delivery
- Produce high-quality technical reports and policy briefs
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in:
- Social Sciences
- Rural Sociology
- Gender Studies
- Rural Development
- Social Anthropology
- Agricultural Economics
- Or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in:
- Socio-economic analysis
- Policy formulation
- Capacity building related to gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Development and/or humanitarian contexts
- Working knowledge (proficiency – level C) of English
- Intermediate knowledge (level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish)

Technical / Functional Skills
- Experience working in multiple locations or field-based roles
- Experience in the African region is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of food security, nutrition, agriculture, rural development, and gender issues
- Proven expertise in both quantitative and qualitative socio-economic analysis
- Experience in policy analysis, formulation, monitoring, and evaluation in gender and social policy
- Demonstrated ability to support governments in developing and implementing gender-sensitive policies and programmes
- Experience in capacity development, training, and awareness-raising initiatives
- Ability to mobilize resources effectively
- Working knowledge of French (proficiency level) is an added advantage
- Experience working with FAO or other UN agencies on gender-related issues is an asset
