Job Summary
The Head of University Security will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all security functions across the University. The successful candidate will develop and implement effective security strategies, manage security personnel and systems, strengthen risk management practices, and ensure a safe campus environment that supports teaching, learning, research, and institutional activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate all security operations across the University campus and affiliated facilities.
- Develop, implement, review, and enforce the University’s security policies, procedures, protocols, and emergency response plans.
- Lead the recruitment, training, supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development of security personnel.
- Coordinate and manage contracted security service providers to ensure effective service delivery and compliance with University standards.
- Manage access control systems, surveillance infrastructure, security technology, and other security equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective security monitoring and reporting systems across the University.
- Liaise with the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and other relevant law enforcement and security agencies on matters affecting the University.
- Investigate security incidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions to University Management.
- Provide expert advice to University Management on security risks, threat assessments, vulnerability analysis, and security intelligence.
- Develop and implement strategies for crisis management, emergency preparedness, and incident response.
- Coordinate crowd control, traffic management, and security arrangements for University events, including matriculation ceremonies, graduations, conferences, and public engagements.
- Prepare, manage, and monitor the Security Department’s annual budget and oversee procurement of security equipment and resources.
- Promote a culture of safety, security awareness, and compliance among students, staff, and visitors.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a good first degree and a two-year Master’s degree in Security Studies, Peace and Security, or a relevant equivalent qualification.
- Be at least a Lieutenant Colonel in the Ghana Army, a Chief Superintendent in the Ghana Police Service, or have served as Head of Security in a university or comparable institution; or
- Possess a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience as a Senior Officer within the Security Services.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the university system and its operational environment.
- Demonstrate proven ability to manage security operations, emergencies, and crises within a complex institutional setting.
- Possess strong leadership experience in managing security teams and coordinating multi-agency responses.
