Position Summary
PATH is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor to support the design, implementation, and strengthening of disease surveillance systems in Ghana. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in epidemiology, surveillance, outbreak preparedness and response, and One Health initiatives while working closely with government agencies, development partners, and key stakeholders.
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to national and regional efforts aimed at preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats through evidence-based surveillance and public health interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation, and management of infectious disease surveillance systems.
- Support epidemiological analysis, disease monitoring, and public health data interpretation to inform decision-making.
- Strengthen surveillance and response systems through capacity building, training, mentorship, and technical assistance.
- Lead and support outbreak investigations, preparedness planning, and emergency response activities.
- Collaborate with government agencies, health institutions, development partners, and stakeholders to strengthen surveillance networks and public health systems.
- Promote and support One Health approaches, including multisectoral collaboration across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
- Contribute to research activities, technical reports, publications, presentations, and the development of surveillance tools and guidance materials.
- Support the implementation of large donor-funded health projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and achievement of project objectives.
- Coordinate technical teams and activities across multiple projects while maintaining high standards of performance and accountability.
- Analyze complex public health challenges and recommend practical, evidence-based solutions.
- Monitor project progress and contribute to program reporting and stakeholder engagement activities.
Educational Qualifications
- Master’s degree or international equivalent in Epidemiology, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Experience and Technical Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant international experience applying epidemiological principles and methods in the design, implementation, and management of surveillance systems.
- Demonstrated experience in epidemiological analysis, research, surveillance, training, and public health program implementation.
- Experience working on large United States Government (USG)-funded projects or technical implementation programs.
- Proven ability to coordinate and manage teams across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience supporting One Health initiatives, zoonotic disease programs, surveillance systems, and outbreak investigation and control activities in Ghana.
- Strong knowledge of public health trends, epidemiological principles, surveillance methodologies, and response systems.
- Experience supporting regional and international collaboration in epidemiology, surveillance, and health security initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze public health information, identify challenges, and recommend effective solutions in diverse operating environments.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using DHIS2 platforms and developing surveillance tools and reporting systems.
- Demonstrated contributions to publications, technical reports, presentations, manuals, or tool development.
- Previous experience working with a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, research institution, or private-sector organization.
- Experience in animal health, zoonotic diseases, and multisectoral collaborations is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel within Ghana up to 25% of the time.
