Job Summary

The Junior Assistant Registrar (Counselling) will support the delivery of professional counselling services to students and staff while contributing to the development and implementation of student welfare initiatives. The successful candidate will provide counselling support, maintain confidential records, coordinate awareness programmes, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to promote mental health and well-being within the University community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counselling services to students and staff on personal, academic, social, career, and emotional well-being matters.
  • Support the planning and implementation of counselling programmes, workshops, and mental health awareness campaigns for the University community.
  • Maintain confidential counselling records and manage assigned cases in line with professional ethics and University policies.
  • Identify students and staff requiring additional support and facilitate appropriate referrals to external mental health and social service providers.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, the Students’ Representative Council, University Health Services, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance student welfare.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of student welfare and mental health policies.
  • Prepare and submit reports on counselling activities, interventions, and outcomes to the appropriate authority.
  • Participate in student orientation and induction programmes to promote awareness of available counselling and support services.
  • Liaise with the Ghana Psychology Council and other relevant professional bodies on ethical standards and professional practices.
  • Support initiatives that promote student resilience, personal development, and academic success.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of the Counselling Unit, the Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a good first degree in Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, or a closely related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Possess an M.Phil. or a two-year research Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Be registered with the Ghana Psychology Council or demonstrate eligibility for registration.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of counselling principles, practices, and professional ethics.
  • Possess strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital tools.
