Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely legal advice and professional opinions to the University Council, Management, and relevant Committees on legal matters affecting the University.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, and other legal instruments on behalf of the University.
- Monitor and promote compliance with applicable laws, regulations, statutes, and University policies.
- Represent the University or coordinate with external legal counsel in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other dispute resolution proceedings.
- Advise on legal matters relating to intellectual property, procurement, employment law, land and property transactions, data protection, and other areas of institutional operations.
- Maintain an accurate register of legal proceedings, contracts, and other legal records.
- Support the development, review, and implementation of University policies, regulations, and governance frameworks with legal implications.
- Liaise with the Ghana Bar Association, regulatory authorities, government agencies, and other external stakeholders on matters affecting the University.
- Design and deliver legal awareness sessions and provide guidance to management and staff on legal and regulatory matters.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Vice-Chancellor or the University Council.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Have been appointed as an Assistant Legal Officer in an accredited university or a comparable public institution and served for at least two (2) years in that grade; or
- Hold a Master of Laws (LLM) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in a relevant legal discipline, in addition to being called to the Bar.
Applicants must also:
- Have a minimum of four (4) years’ post-call legal experience, including demonstrated expertise in contract drafting, institutional compliance, litigation, or related legal practice.
- Be a member in good standing of the Ghana Bar Association.
- Demonstrate excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Possess sound judgment, high ethical standards, and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Be able to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders while managing multiple priorities effectively.
