Position Overview
FAO seeks a highly qualified National Expert on Socio-Economic Statistics to provide technical leadership and analytical expertise in socio-economic data related to agriculture, food consumption, and nutrition. The successful candidate will strengthen national statistical systems, support evidence-based policymaking, and contribute to the design, analysis, and reporting of socio-economic and food security data.
This is a full-time position based in Accra, Ghana.
Key Responsibilities
The National Expert will:
Lead the design, analysis, and interpretation of socio-economic data related to agriculture, fisheries, food consumption, and nutrition.
Conduct economic analyses to inform national policies and strategies on food security and nutrition.
Support the development and implementation of statistical methodologies aligned with international standards.
Strengthen national capacity in agricultural and food consumption statistics.
Collaborate with government institutions, research bodies, and development partners to improve data quality and dissemination.
Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and analytical documents for stakeholders.
Ensure timely delivery of outputs in line with FAO programme objectives.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Statistics, Economics, Nutrition, Public Health, Fisheries Sciences, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
Experience:
At least seven (7) years of relevant experience in economic analysis of agricultural and food consumption and nutrition content, or related technical areas.
Nationality:
Must be a national of Ghana.
Languages:
Working knowledge of English.
Core Competencies
Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
Proven ability to manage and analyze complex datasets.
Sound knowledge of socio-economic and agricultural statistical systems.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and national stakeholders.
