Job Summary
The Senior Assistant Registrar (Counselling) will provide professional leadership in the delivery of counselling and student support services across the University. The successful candidate will promote the mental health and well-being of students and staff, coordinate counselling programmes, supervise counselling activities, and contribute to the development of policies and initiatives that enhance student welfare and institutional success.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counselling services to students and staff on personal, academic, social, career, and emotional well-being matters.
- Design, implement, and evaluate counselling programmes, workshops, and mental health awareness campaigns for the University community.
- Maintain confidential counselling records in accordance with professional ethics, data protection requirements, and University policies.
- Identify students and staff experiencing crises and coordinate timely referrals to appropriate mental health and social support services.
- Collaborate with academic departments, the Students’ Representative Council, the University Health Services, and other stakeholders to promote student welfare.
- Support the development, implementation, and periodic review of the University’s student welfare and mental health policies.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports on counselling activities, service delivery, and programme outcomes to the Registrar or designated authority.
- Participate in student orientation and induction programmes to promote awareness of counselling and support services.
- Liaise with the Ghana Psychology Council and other relevant professional bodies to ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards.
- Supervise counselling operations and support staff within the Counselling Unit where required.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of the Counselling Unit, the Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor, or the University Council.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:
- Have served satisfactorily as an Assistant Registrar (Counselling) in an accredited university or comparable institution for at least four (4) years and have met the minimum requirements for promotion to the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar; or
- Hold an M.Phil. or a two-year research Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, or a related discipline and possess at least six (6) years of postgraduate counselling experience in a university or comparable public institution at the management level.
- Demonstrate supervisory competence in managing a counselling unit or student support services.
- Be registered with the Ghana Psychology Council.
- Possess strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant digital tools.
