Role Purpose
The Technician, Mechanical – Lifting & Ancillary performs maintenance, servicing, and repair of lifting equipment and ancillary systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role supports compliance with statutory and company standards while contributing to continuous improvement in maintenance performance.
Key Role Accountabilities
Safety
- Apply Total Quality Management principles to achieve zero defects and maintain a safe working environment.
- Enforce Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards with zero tolerance for non-compliance.
- Demonstrate safety behaviors aligned with company values and continuously improve safety performance.
- Take responsibility for personal safety and the safety of all individuals affected by work activities.
Environment
- Comply with the site Environmental Management Plan and all legal requirements.
- Prevent environmental pollution through responsible work practices.
- Identify, report, and correct environmental deviations while recommending improvements.
- Follow established environmental procedures and incident reporting protocols.
Work Execution
- Perform preventive, corrective, and ad hoc maintenance on lifting equipment and ancillaries in line with Ghanaian regulations and company standards.
- Conduct pre-start inspections of tools and equipment and report any anomalies.
- Assess required tools and equipment, prepare checklists, and ensure availability for task execution.
- Identify maintenance issues and escalate them promptly to the Supervisor.
- Provide accurate data to support maintenance planning and close work orders in SAP upon completion.
People & Development
- Participate actively in training, development, and performance improvement initiatives.
Cost & Efficiency
- Use resources efficiently and minimize waste during operations.
Time Management
- Complete assigned tasks within required timelines without compromising quality or safety.
Risk Management
- Operate equipment strictly within safe working limits and proactively manage risks.
Reporting & Authority
- Report and escalate issues directly to the Supervisor.
- Stop equipment operation immediately in the event of unsafe conditions or high risk.
Maintenance Systems & Compliance
- Follow maintenance management systems and standard operating procedures.
- Execute tasks according to approved plans, procedures, and standards.
- Accurately document and sign off all work orders.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, safety, and environmental regulations.
Meetings & Communication
- Attend daily safety meetings and other required operational meetings.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in performance appraisal processes and audits.
- Engage in continuous learning and career development programs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance function.
Quality & Change Management
- Deliver high-quality workmanship in line with approved maintenance procedures.
- Conduct thorough inspections and testing before handing over completed work.
- Comply with approved change management processes and implementation requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Professional Qualification
- Secondary or Technical education.
- Certificate of completion of a recognized mechanical trade apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds or equivalent).
- National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Grade 1 certification.
- Valid driving and/or equipment operating license.
- Valid MINCOM certification.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ post-apprenticeship experience in a mechanical or auto-electrical trade.
- Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations.
- Experience in underground mining operations is an advantage.
Technical Competencies
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Proven competence in mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of safe crane operations and lifting equipment systems.
