Position Summary
AAN is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance and Operations Senior Manager to provide leadership across financial management, operations, compliance, human resources coordination, grant management, and organizational administration. The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening financial sustainability, operational effectiveness, governance support, and donor compliance while contributing to the organization’s long-term growth and impact.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee accounting systems, bookkeeping processes, banking activities, and financial records.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, expense reporting, and financial transactions.
- Ensure timely and accurate accounting entries, reconciliations, and financial documentation.
- Maintain effective internal controls and robust financial management systems.
- Safeguard organizational assets and ensure sound financial stewardship.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Conduct financial reconciliations, variance analyses, and performance assessments.
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Monitor organizational financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process across the organization.
- Develop financial forecasts, cash-flow projections, and reserve management strategies.
- Monitor budget utilization and provide guidance on financial sustainability.
- Support long-term financial planning and resource allocation decisions.
Compliance, Audit & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, donor regulations, and applicable legal requirements.
- Coordinate annual external audits and statutory reporting obligations.
- Strengthen internal controls, risk management systems, and compliance frameworks.
- Develop and implement policies that promote accountability and financial integrity.
Operations Management
- Oversee organizational operations, systems, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage procurement oversight, logistics coordination, vendor relationships, contract administration, and office operations.
- Support information technology systems, data security measures, and business continuity initiatives.
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Human Resources Coordination
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, employee records management, policy administration, training, and separation processes.
- Ensure compliance with employment policies and applicable labor regulations.
- Coordinate and supervise external HR consultants and service providers when required.
- Support initiatives that promote employee engagement and organizational culture.
Grant & Donor Management
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, grant agreements, and reporting obligations.
- Monitor restricted and unrestricted funding allocations and expenditures.
- Prepare grant budgets, financial reports, and donor financial submissions.
- Collaborate with program teams to support grant implementation and reporting.
- Maintain strong financial accountability across all donor-funded activities.
Board & Committee Support
- Prepare financial and operational reports for the Finance & Administration Oversight Committee (FAOC) and Board of Directors.
- Participate in Board and committee meetings to provide financial and operational guidance.
- Support governance processes through accurate reporting and strategic recommendations.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise the Procurement, Logistics, and Administration Manager.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance oversight to team members and service providers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Support organizational change initiatives and capacity-building efforts.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional accounting certification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or an equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline will be considered an advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in financial management at a senior leadership level, preferably within the nonprofit, NGO, or development sector.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, IFRS, and donor compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial planning, grant management, and financial reporting.
- Experience overseeing operational systems, internal controls, and organizational processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and collaboration platforms including Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
- Experience working in resource-constrained environments requiring adaptability and multitasking.

- Strong financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning capabilities.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
The following qualifications and experiences will be considered an advantage:
- Experience in human rights advocacy, policy development, or social justice initiatives.
- Experience working with disability rights organizations or human rights institutions.
- Experience working across multiple African countries or within international organizations.
- Knowledge of French or other African languages.
- Familiarity with regional human rights frameworks and nonprofit governance structures.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. The successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple time zones.
