Position Summary
Lincoln Community School is seeking a dependable, proactive, and service-oriented Custodian/Handy Person to support the day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, event setup, and operational readiness of the School’s facilities. The successful candidate will help ensure that the campus remains safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities and Event Support
The successful candidate will:
- Arrange furniture, equipment, and accessories for school events, meetings, assemblies, and formal functions.
- Dismantle, transport, and safely store furniture and equipment following events.
- Move furniture, equipment, and materials between school locations as required.
- Assist staff with office relocations and support employees moving into school residences when required.
- Clean designated areas before, during, and after relocation, furnishing, or event activities.
- Support the efficient setup and breakdown of school functions while maintaining high presentation standards.
Inventory and Stores Management
The successful candidate will:
- Allocate and distribute sanitary supplies to classrooms, washrooms, and other designated areas.
- Distribute bottled drinking water and replenish supplies as required.
- Carry out routine servicing and weekly deep cleaning of water dispensers.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for consumables, drinking water, paper cups, sanitary supplies, and event equipment.
- Prepare stock replenishment requests for consumable items.
- Assist in receiving, inspecting, and verifying deliveries to ensure accuracy and quality.
Maintenance Duties
The successful candidate will:
- Carry out minor painting and decorating works across the school campus.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance requirements.
- Perform minor masonry and construction repairs, including:
- Block wall repairs.
- Pavement and kerb repairs.
- Cement works.
- Pothole repairs and surface dressing.
- Repairs to inspection chambers and septic tanks.
- Minor reinforced concrete repairs and platform maintenance.
- Report maintenance issues that require specialist attention.
Health, Safety and Compliance
The successful candidate will:
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures while performing assigned duties.
- Handle cleaning chemicals, machinery, hand tools, and maintenance equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Report hazards, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and secure environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Senior Secondary School (SSS) Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in custodial services, facilities maintenance, building maintenance, event support, or a similar role.
- Experience working within a school or educational institution will be an added advantage.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Basic knowledge of custodial services, cleaning procedures, and building maintenance.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management and stock control.
- Familiarity with the safe use of cleaning chemicals, maintenance materials, tools, and equipment.
- Basic computer literacy for routine administrative tasks.
- Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Flexibility to support school activities outside normal working hours when required.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate should be able to:
- Lift, carry, push, and pull heavy equipment and materials safely.
- Perform physically demanding duties for extended periods.
- Work comfortably indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Carry out manual handling and event setup responsibilities safely and efficiently.
Working Conditions
This role involves:
- Working with cleaning chemicals, maintenance materials, powered machinery, and hand tools.
- Regular manual handling and physical activity.
- Occasional early morning, evening, weekend, or public holiday work to support school programmes and events.
